The UNSW Business School Experimental Research Laboratory (BizLab) is bound by the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

BizLab's research-ethics responsibilities include the proper safeguarding of potentially sensitive data collected during an experiment. BizLab takes the following steps to meet its confidentiality requirements:

  • All data collected during recruitment is stored on a server that is accessible only to BizLab research staff. These data are used only for the purpose of recruiting subjects to participate in BizLab experiments.
  • All personally-identifying data collected during an experiment (e.g., your name) is processed according to the approved ethics document of the respective study. Usually, any personal information is replaced with a code number, and the list linking code numbers to personally-identifying data is kept separate from the experimental data.
  • All human-subjects forms containing personally-identifying information (e.g., informed consent) are stored in secure locations. (Note: Researchers are ethically required to retain these forms in original or PDF format for 7 years.)

As a human-subject participant at BizLab, it is your right to lodge a complaint if you believe that sensitive information about you collected during an experiment has not actually been kept confidential. Such complaints can be delivered to the Ethics Secretariat, UNSW Research Services, Rupert Myers Building, University of New South Wales, UNSW Sydney, NSW 2052 Australia (tel: +61 2 9385 4234).
